Alejandro P.

Alejandro P.  shared regarding the ministry he will be working with in Argentina.  He shared that of the 41 million people living in Argentina, 88% live in the capital city, Buenos Aires.  When they put the training center in the capital city, they can easily reach half of Argentina’s population. 75% of people in Argentina identify as Catholic but are not necessarily practicing Catholicism. 9% of people in Argentina identify as Evangelical. The evangelical movement is growing rapidly. However, there are not many strong churches, Many of the churches lack depth, lack good teaching, and are based on experience not good theology. Pastors are often self-educated.  The evangelical movement is extensive but lacks depth. The goal is to start a training institute by nationals for nationals, starting with five pastors. They will be starting with a group of 25-30 students.

How to Pray

§  Please pray that support will come in (support was completed in November 2012).

§  Please pray for their move to Argentina will go smoothly.

§  The two adult children will be remaining in the United States. Pray for JP as he separates from his siblings and friends.

§  Please pray that another TMS graduate will be on board by 2015.

Helen H.

The family will be returning to Australia. 13 years ago, their friends left Australia for TMS. The friends returned and started a church. In 2003, John Street came to the church to encourage them. Three years ago, Rod Hole started long distance training in Biblical counseling. They came over, so that he could go to TMS. He has been offered the position of as the associate pastor/director of marriage and family ministry in their home church.

Please pray

·        The PSP blog is up. All the moms’ time notes are on the blog: http://gcspsp.blogspot.com/

Brenda S.—Chapter 3 Choosing Gratitude

·        Chapter 3 discussed the sin of ingratitude. What is ingratitude? It is not just a hardened, resentful attitude. It can be letting a window of opportunity pass by. Gradually, we become desensitized. In the book, the example was the ten lepers. Only one showed his thankfulness. The others were probably thankful as well, but did not take the opportunity to express it.  Ingratitude is the fountainhead of all kinds of evils.

The book had five categories that often lead to ingratitude.

1)    Unrealistic expectations. I am thankful, but my blessings are not quite what I hoped for. Also, we may expect others to meet our needs in ways that only the Lord can. It is idolatry when we expect others to take the place of God.

2)    Forgetfulness. Remembering is a big theme in the OT, especially throughout the book of Deuteronomy. The Israelites were often setting up stone monuments as reminders of what the Lord had done for them. Communion is about remembering our salvation

3)    Entitlement. We often take simple blessings for granted as if they were owed to us. We sometimes feel that the things we have are beneath what we deserve.

4)    Comparison.  We not only compare what others have to what we have, but we also compare all the sacrifices we make to what others do or do not do. We may be tempted to remind others of our sacrifices, or to become resentful when we feel others are not sacrificing as much as we are.

5)    Blindness to God’s grace.  In reality, nothing we have is deserved. All good things are evidence of God’s grace in our lives.

The book also had a 30 day challenge. For thirty days, the challenge was not to express anything negative about your husband (or some other person). On the contrary, the challenge was to find something positive to say to your husband about himself and to someone else about him.

If you apply the five areas to your husband, what are the practical implications?

1)    Unrealistic expectations. Do we expect our husbands to constantly meet our demands or work on our projects? Ask yourself, “Am I a princess or a doulas?”

2)    Forgetfulness. Take time together to remember the Lord’s benefits.

3)    Entitlement. Am I thankful for my husband right now?

4)    Comparison. Do you focus on your husband’s day or on your own? Do you compare all the sacrifices you make to the ones he makes?

5)    God’s grace. Do we show grace? Am I a forgiving person? Am I humble?

Announcements: Christine R.

·         American Heritage Day is this Friday, November 16.

o   There will be no nursery care. You can bring your young children with you. Just make sure that they are not running around or touching the projects.

·         The week after American Heritage Day, November 23, will be Thanksgiving week, so there will be no PSP.

·         The week after Thanksgiving, November 30, will be Junior Camp.

o   If your child is going to Junior Camp, his or her work still needs to be turned in on that day (November 30).  Do not get behind on the homework during the break from PSP.

o   If you are nervous about sending your child to J. Camp, talk to Brian R. He has a sixth grade boys’ cabin.

·         Make sure you are doing the homework as assigned.  Have an assignment sheet in the front of your child’s notebook so he can record the homework for that week.

·         If your child says he has no homework, take that time to have him review his notes, work, and previous tests. Tests are often cumulative, so review is important.

·         Make sure you are sitting down with your children and helping them with their work throughout the week. When your child is confused, call or e-mail the teacher.

Speaker Notes: Laura Tagliere - November 9, 2012

Moms’ Time Speaker, Laura Tagliere

Managing God’s Gifts

God’s gifts to us include our husbands, our homes, and our money. As woman we often see God’s gifts to us as chores. Do we look for ways to help our husbands, or do we see helping them as a chore? Do we see managing our home as a chore or as a way to serve and put the Gospel on display? Is money a source of worry, or do we see the money that we have as God’s gift?

We bring joy and glory to God when we manage and use His gifts properly. Everything we have is from God and an opportunity to bring Him glory.

Part I: The Gift of Our Husbands

Marriage is one of the greatest gifts from God. It is the “grace of life” and meant to be a source of joy. Sometimes we see our husbands as a distraction from real ministry. God, however, clearly intends for this “distraction.”

Titus 3:3-5 says, “Older woman likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, 4 so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.”

Titus 2 speaks of loving our husbands as a way to avoid dishonoring Scripture. The love in Titus 2 is not the word for “agape” but actually “phileo.” The word “phileo”emphasizes affection and common interests. God wants us to like our husbands. The same word, “phileo” is used in Romans 12:10, and this verse emphasizes honor and admiration. How can we foster admiration for our husbands? What if we no longer feel this? We must remember that honoring is a choice, and action, and a commitment. I John 4:19 reminds us that we our unworthy to receive God’s love. He will enable us to love other unworthy sinners.

What if feeling the love is not a problem but expressing it is? How do you greet your husband? Does it communicate affection or indifference? Do you express thanks for the impact he has on your life? Do you thank him for providing? Do you look for ways to seek his opinion? Do you consult with him? Do you show interest in your husband? Do you show interest in his job? Do you try to look nice for your husband? Do you know or care about his style preferences?

You can become even more beautiful as you age, developing a spirit of humility (I Peter 3:3-5).

One of the most meaningful ways to love your husband is through physical intimacy. Consider what is important to your husband, and save your time/energy for what he values, God will honor obedience and submission.

Part II: The Gift of our Homes

Learn to appreciate your home as the gift God has given you right now.

What is the goal of working at home? Titus 2 said so the Word of God would not be dishonored. A well-managed home will be the place your husband most wants to be. Our will be a place where the Gospel is on display and the Word of God is honored.

Hospitality is an extension of love. God wants us to use our homes to reflect His love.

Working at home is an act of sacrificial love.

Does your demeanor at home reflect the fact that relationships are most important to you? Do your efforts reflect the desires/needs of who you are serving? Does your attitude reflect that your home belongs to God? Do your actions reflect that your home belongs to God?

Part III: The Gift of Money

Considering the standards around the world and throughout history, we are all wealthy. All our money is the Lord’s. There are 2,350 verses on finances in Scripture. The principles for managing money are: provide, pay what we owe, save for the future and give.

God not only cares about what we give; He cares about what we keep.

Our spiritual health is directly related to our use of money. See I Timothy 6:17-19.

What is the key to serving God? Contentment. Be content because the Heavenly Father knows exactly what we need. The passage in I Timothy instructs us to hope in God and to be rich in good works.

The key to serving God with our resources is contentment. How can we show contentment? I Timothy tells us to be generous and ready to share.

What are some practical ways to show contentment?

It is impossible to manage money well if you do not know where it is going. Keep track of everything you spend. Categorize expenses. Develop a spending plan (budget) to help shepherd you in the process of money management.

Make giving a priority. Our church does not teach tithing. Jesus, however, always raised the spiritual bar. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be. Consider what God might want you to give up? Is it a want or a need?
